Look! On our play table, a shiny red apple sits beside a bouncy ball. What do you see? Apple! Ball! Say them with me: apple... ball. Listen closely to the very first sound in apple: ah. That sound helps us find the letter A. A! A is for apple. Now listen to ball: buh. It begins differently. That sound helps us find the letter B. B! B is for ball. Apple starts with ah-A. Ball starts with buh-B. They are not the same, and that is how we can tell their letters apart. Your turn! When I say apple, say "A!" Apple! When I say ball, say "B!" Ball! Excellent listening. The apple helped you find A, and the ball helped you find B. A is for apple, and B is for ball. You found two letters by listening to their first sounds!
