What if you were jailed because someone suspected you, without a chance to explain yourself? Like a school rule punishing you before hearing your side. In 1919, the colonial government passed the Rowlatt Act, allowing political suspects detention without trial for up to two years. Indians saw this as an attack on civil freedoms, not protection. Gandhi responded with the Rowlatt Satyagraha, including a nationwide hartal on 6 April. So what did the Act mean? Repression disguised as security.
