You want to write a book, but your notes app or notebook is full of scattered thoughts, and none feels like an idea. Instead, look for the small moment that stays with you, the problem that bothers you, or the question you keep returning to. The idea is not something you wait for. It is usually a question, tension, or problem you have already been noticing. For fiction, turn that question into "What if?" and imagine a situation. For nonfiction, ask what useful answer or explanation someone needs. Then push one note further: What conflict could grow from it? What could change? Or what promise could this book make to the reader? Your idea can be rough. It does not need to be complete or perfectly original. Open your notes now. Write one thing you keep wondering about. That question may be the beginning of your book.
