Why does a wall push back when you push it, even though it barely moves? When your hands push the wall, the wall pushes your hands at the same time. That pushback is not a separate effect. It is the equal and opposite partner of your push. This is Newton's Third Law: every interaction produces two forces, equal and opposite. One force acts on you, away from the wall. The other acts on the wall, away from you. They do not cancel, because they act on different objects. So equal strength does not mean equal motion. The wall does move slightly, but you usually cannot notice it. Equal forces can still cause different amounts of motion. So it barely moves because the wall and Earth are far more massive than you, even as the wall pushes back equally in the opposite direction.
