What makes your phone a computer-is it the screen? When you tap play, your phone receives that request. It follows instructions to find and handle the information needed for the song, then produces a result: the music you hear. That small moment shows the basic job. You give an input; the machine follows instructions to work with information; and something comes out. The result might be heard, seen, or saved. The screen is not what makes it a computer. The key is what happens behind the action: instructions guide the work on information. A laptop may look different from your phone, but both follow instructions to work with information and produce results. A computer is not one particular shape, or just a screen. It is a machine that follows instructions to work on information and produce a result-like your phone playing a song.
