Video narration
Dheeraj walks in carrying eight colorful balls and sets them on the classroom table. Dhatri comes closer, ready to see what happens. Dheeraj slides the balls into pairs: two, two, two, two. All eight are used, with nobody left out. Dhatri counts along. "Eight can be completely divided into pairs!" Dheeraj writes, "8 divided by 2 equals 4, remainder 0." That zero matters: eight makes complete pairs, so eight is even. Now Dhatri takes seven balls and arranges them herself. Three pairs form quickly-but one ball stays alone. She points to it, surprised. "One is left over!" Dheeraj writes, "7 divided by 2 equals 3, remainder 1." Dhatri sees the difference. "So 8 is EVEN, but 7 is ODD!" When you share classroom balls into pairs, no leftover means even. One ball left over means odd. Dheeraj and Dhatri smile and high-five.
