Does a bee colony help an apple orchard produce more fruit? Think of an apple you've eaten. Before it formed, its tree's flower had to begin turning into fruit. Pollination is pollen moving between flowers, helping fruit begin to form. The chart compares natural pollination with an orchard where a bee colony was present. Fruit set is how many blossoms form fruit; fruit drop is how much fruit falls before harvest. The bee-colony orchard has higher fruit set: more blossoms became fruit. But the key is not only what starts growing. Fewer apples also drop before harvest there. Because these orchards were in different locations, other factors may have mattered; this chart cannot prove bees alone caused the difference. Yes, it shows more fruit set and less fruit drop in the bee-colony orchard than in the naturally pollinated one.
