College admissions in India don’t follow one single system. The steps can change by course, college type, and whether it’s under a state system or a central one. But the overall flow is usually similar. First, you check what a program accepts: either entrance-exam scores, marks from school or previous study, or a mix of both. Next, you apply—sometimes through a centralized portal, and sometimes directly to the college. After results, colleges or portals publish cutoffs or merit lists, based on marks or ranks. If you meet the cutoff, you may enter counseling, where you choose preferences and seats are allocated depending on rank, availability, and eligibility. Finally, you confirm the seat by submitting documents and fees within a deadline. Different places do it differently, but exams, merit, cutoffs, and seat allocation are common building blocks.
