Her waistband feels snug after a big meal, and then-pffft. The huge pregnant woman freezes, eyes wide, as another burst rumbles out. She tries to play it cool. Pffft. Her belly looks bigger. One more squeak, and suddenly her whole body seems to have grown another size. She tries to hold still, but another loud burst escapes, and her belly bounces with it. This is no longer a little embarrassing moment; the room is watching a ridiculous growth spurt, one noisy burst at a time. She takes a breath, but a deeper rumble rolls through. Bigger again. The joke keeps swelling, and now even she looks surprised. Then the growth stops being the punchline. Something else is coming. She braces, the noise cuts off, and in one quick, non-graphic moment, she gives birth. And after all that noise, the baby arrives-the biggest surprise of all.
