Video narration
Where did the snake you saw in that rope actually come from? In dim light, a rope can look like a snake. Add fear, and your mind fills in what your eyes cannot see clearly. The snake feels real-but look again. The rope did not change; your identification did. A guru taught his disciples that the jagat-the world as we experience it-can be understood similarly. Something appears in a definite form, and we take that appearance as the whole truth. This is a spiritual example, not scientific proof that the world is literally false. Notice the difference between what appears and what is actually there. So, where did the snake come from? Nowhere. It was a wrong identity placed on the rope. According to the guru, the jagat can appear the same way: an illusion mistaken for reality.
