Your lunchbox is open, and you're choosing what goes inside: a piece of fruit, some vegetables, whole-grain bread, or a sweet treat. What you pack helps fuel your day. Healthy foods provide energy and nutrients your body uses to grow, move, play, think, and stay well. But if sugary drinks, sweets, or highly processed foods fill the lunchbox too often, they can crowd out foods with helpful nutrients. Over time, you may feel more tired, and frequent sugar can raise the risk of tooth decay. That doesn't mean one treat is harmful. Here's the important flip: treats are not bad. Too many treats, too often, instead of nourishing foods, can cause problems. Children need different foods, and families make different choices. So build your lunchbox with healthy foods most days, and enjoy treats sometimes-without guilt, not all the time.
