What makes a phone a computer-and is it just the screen or box you can see? Take your phone. You tap a message, speak a request, or choose an app. That action is an input: information entering the system. The phone follows instructions-the app's directions for what to do with it. This is processing: changing information according to those instructions. The result might appear on the screen, play through a speaker, or be saved. That result is the output. Change the instructions, and the same phone becomes a map, a camera, or a music player. A computer is not mainly the hardware you can see. It is the system following instructions to transform information. That is why phones, laptops, and devices hidden inside other objects belong to the same family. So what is a computer? It's a machine that follows instructions to turn information into useful results.
