Let’s build your first website from scratch, using just two files. First, on your computer, create a new folder and name it “my-website.” Open that folder in a code editor like VS Code. Inside it, create a file called index.html. In index.html, add a basic page: a title, a heading that says “Hello, world!”, and a short paragraph. Save it. Now create a second file in the same folder named style.css. Let’s add simple styling, like changing the background color and setting the heading font color. Next, connect the CSS to the HTML: in index.html, inside the head section, add a link tag that points to style.css. Save again. Finally, open index.html in Chrome or Firefox—double-click it or use “Open with.” You should see your text, now styled by your CSS. That’s the basic workflow: folder, HTML, CSS, link, and view in the browser.
