What comes after 1? You know the answer: 2. Then comes 3. Counting moves forward one step at a time, and letters do that too. The letters are not a jumble. Each has a place, and one follows another. Start at the beginning, and listen for each next letter: A, B, C, D, E, F. G comes next, then H, I, J, K, L. Keep following the path: M, N, O, P, Q, R. The next letters are S, T, U, V. And the sequence carries on with W, X, Y, Z. Stay with the order; each new name connects to the one just before it, so the path is easy to keep following. You have moved from the first letter to the last, one step at a time. So, what comes after A? B. Follow each letter in order, and you reach Z.
