Is a drone's category really decided by how big it looks? A phone, a water bottle, and a small parcel can all look completely different, but each has one thing in common: you can measure its weight. Drone categories work the same way. The key is the drone's maximum all-up weight-the heaviest total weight allowed for that aircraft. Here's India's ladder, from lightest to heaviest: nano, up to and including 250 grams; micro, over 250 grams up to 2 kilograms; small, over 2 up to 25 kilograms; medium, over 25 up to 150 kilograms; and large, over 150 kilograms. Notice the flip: the category is not a universal judgment about visible size, shape, or purpose. These are legal weight boundaries, and another country may set different limits. So check your local aviation authority before relying on them. So, in India, weight decides the category-not appearance.
