Video narration
When you're building a word with magnetic letters and hear the k sound at the end, do you choose c, k, or ck? As you build, listen to the vowel just before that final sound. The k sound alone does not tell you which letters to use. Here's the turn: the vowel before k decides. If it is a short vowel, and the word has one syllable, use ck at the end. Listen to back: b, a, k. The short a comes right before k, so build b, a, c, k. Try neck: short e, then ck. Lick has short i. So when your magnetic letters reach the end of a one-syllable word, do not guess from the k sound alone. Check the vowel before it. Short vowel plus final k? Use ck: back, neck, lick, rock, and duck.
