In real published accounts, these routes are assembled from huge amounts of data. They are checked against each other, and small statistical discrepancies can remain. The figures are also revised as fuller information arrives. One more distinction matters whenever you hear GDP growth. At current prices, values use the prices actually paid that year. So a higher figure can reflect more production, higher prices, or both. At constant prices, values are expressed using prices from a fixed base year, helping you compare the volume of production over time. For India, the provisional estimate for 2022-23, released on the 2011-12 base, reported GDP at about ₹272.41 lakh crore at current prices. At constant 2011-12 prices, it was about ₹159.71 lakh crore. These are that provisional-estimate vintage; later revisions can change them. Neither number tells you everything about life in India. GDP measures market production within the country's borders. It does not, by itself, tell you how income is shared, count all unpaid work, or measure environmental damage, health, safety, or happiness. So return to that ₹100 canteen meal. India does not add the meal, the ingredients, and the incomes as three separate ₹100 totals. It counts final production once, then checks it through the spending and income that the meal creates.
