In class, picture London in 1909: a young Indian student has chosen to resist British rule. Born in Amritsar in 1883, Madan Lal Dhingra came from privilege and went to England to study engineering. There, he embraced revolutionary politics. On 1 July, his private belief became public violence: he shot British official Sir Curzon Wyllie. Tried for the killing, Dhingra was hanged at Pentonville Prison on 17 August 1909, remembered as a young revolutionary in India's freedom struggle.
