Look at this puddle after the rain. The warm Sun shines on it, and slowly, the puddle gets smaller. Where is the water going? It is not gone. The water has changed into invisible water vapor and is rising into the air. This first stage is evaporation. Higher up, the air is cooler. The vapor cools and becomes tiny drops of water. Many tiny drops gather together to make a cloud. This is condensation. When the cloud has lots of drops, they fall back to the ground as rain. This is precipitation. The rain can fill our puddle again. Now the same drop can begin another trip: the Sun warms it, it rises, it helps make a cloud, and it falls. Water keeps traveling in a loop. So remember: evaporation sends water up, condensation makes clouds, and precipitation brings rain down. The puddle was traveling.
