How can one brain help you move your hand, think, keep your heart beating, and digest lunch-all at once? Think of a smartphone: it receives information, processes it, and runs several apps. So does your brain. It receives messages from your senses and body, then sends signals back through nerves. You choose to move your hand, but you do not consciously command every breath, heartbeat, or temperature change. The autonomic nervous system manages much of that automatically. Here is the correction: the brain is not a manager sending a separate command to every body part. It coordinates the body through the nervous system and hormones-slower, longer-lasting messages. The spinal cord, nerves, glands, and organs share the work; some organs handle parts locally. So how does one brain manage so much? Because it connects information to instructions, while the rest of your body carries them out automatically.
