Would you say "I like pizza" as "Yo gusto pizza"? Not quite. When you choose a favourite food, game, or song, Spanish thinks of it as "To me, something is pleasing." That is the idea behind gustar. Here's the turn: the person comes first-me, te, le, nos, os, or les-but the thing you like controls the verb. One thing? Use "me gusta": me gusta la pizza. More than one? Use "me gustan": me gustan los tacos. So, choose by counting the things, not the person. Encantar follows the same pattern when you really love something: me encanta el chocolate. One thing, "encanta"; several things, "encantan." So, would "Yo gusto pizza" express "I like pizza"? No. Because Spanish puts the person who likes first: me gusta la pizza, me gustan los tacos, and me encanta el chocolate.
