Video narration
Your finger presses a tiny seed into soft soil in a pot, then covers it. From above, nothing seems to change. Underground, the seed takes in water and swells, getting ready to grow. The pot still looks quiet; the first work is happening where you can't see. Then a root pushes out of the seed and down into the soil. That's the first big move-not a green shoot, but a root, hidden beneath the surface. It reaches into the soil while the seed fuels this early growth. Only after that does the shoot grow upward. It breaks through the surface, and its first little leaves open. What looked like a still pot has been changing all along. So when you check your own pot, don't wait for green to mark the beginning. The seed starts by sending a root down.
