Video narration
You walk into the airport with your bags, wondering where check-in fits-and whether it means boarding. Like checking in at a hotel, it confirms you've arrived and gets you what you need next. Flight check-in tells the airline you're taking the flight and gives you a boarding pass, the pass you'll use as you continue toward the gate. You can check in online, or use an airport kiosk or desk. If you're checking a bag, the airline tags it and takes it; document checks depend on your route and airline. But check-in gets you ready for the flight. It does not get you on the plane. Security comes afterward. Then, when boarding begins, you use your pass to board. That's check-in: your flight is confirmed, your pass is ready, and any checked bag is handed over. Security and boarding are still ahead.
