If six friends share a fixed bag of sweets equally, what happens when two more join? Each share gets smaller, but the bag's total stays the same. Six friends getting four sweets each gives 6 times 4 equals 24. With 8 friends, each gets 3: 8 times 3 is still 24. Here is the flip: opposite movement alone is not enough. The product must stay fixed. That is inverse proportion: one quantity rises while the other falls, with a constant product. In symbols, y = k/x, and here k is 24. If 12 friends arrive, divide 24 by 12: each gets 2 sweets. If each gets 6, 24 divided by 6 gives 4 friends. So why do shares shrink as friends increase? The total stays fixed: friends times sweets per person stays constant. That makes sweets per person inversely proportional to friends.
