What do you do when your idea sounds absurd to everyone? Nicolas Copernico, by his own account, held back his book for more than twenty-seven years, afraid of ridicule. His idea: Earth moves around the Sun. The accepted picture put Earth-and humanity-at the center, in a universe made for us. Move Earth, and you unsettle more than the sky. You challenge the belief that tradition and authority get the final word. Kepler, Galileo, and Newton developed and corrected parts of his proposal. Then Descartes and Kant asked a wider question: what supports what we know? The wider meaning of a Copernican turn: a change in perspective about how anyone can justify what's true. The shift took time; it wasn't one person changing everything. So when an idea sounds absurd, don't dismiss it just because "that's how it's always been." Ask what the evidence says.
