Video narration
Does a WhatsApp takeover mean someone broke the encryption protecting your messages? Not necessarily. Often, the weak point is account access, not the lock around your messages. Think of a one-time sign-in code sent to your phone: if a convincing message or call tricks you into sharing that verification code, someone else can use it as proof that they're you. And codes aren't the only route. If someone takes control of your phone number, they put your account at risk. Someone may also persuade you to link an unfamiliar device, exposing your account activity. An account takeover doesn't necessarily mean WhatsApp's encryption failed. It means someone got access through a code, your number, or a linked device. Treat unexpected requests for codes or device links with caution. So, was the encryption broken? Usually, no. Guard what gives someone access to your account.
