You repeat today's ayah with the Qur'an open, and it seems secure-then later, the words slip away. A smooth recitation with the page open is not the same as recalling the ayah later. Use that same ayah to test what you really know. Choose a small portion, manageable enough to give the words your attention. Read it carefully, cover the page, and recite it from memory. Take your time; the aim is accurate recall, not speed. Then uncover it, check each part, and correct anything you missed before trying again. Later, after a gap, bring that ayah back once more, alongside the new portion you're learning. Choose a review time that suits you and follow your teacher's guidance; timing differs from learner to learner. For hifdh, count what you can bring back after a gap-not only what flows while you read today.
