Applied for an IPO, got no shares, and your UPI money still looks held? Why? An IPO, or a company's first public share sale, raises money. In a fresh issue, proceeds go to the company; in an offer for sale, selling investors get them. The company prepares its offer, files a draft with SEBI, sets a price range and dates, then opens bidding. Shares are divided among investor groups. But a bid is not a promise of shares. Allotment-the decision on who gets shares-depends on demand and availability. If bids exceed available shares, some applicants get none. With UPI, the payment system, your bid amount is blocked, not immediately charged. If shares are allotted, it's charged; if not, the block is released. Allotted shares reach your demat account, where securities are held. So why no shares? Demand exceeded supply, and allotment was limited. This is information, not investment advice.
