Video narration
How much does a baby grow before the first birthday, as those tiny clothes suddenly stop fitting? By around age one, a baby's weight is about three times what it was at birth. That's a big change in just twelve months. Height increases by about 25 centimetres over that first year, too. These are general estimates; babies don't all grow at exactly the same rate. Then comes a change in pace. After the first birthday, growth slows. It doesn't stop. From age one to age two, a baby typically gains about one to two kilograms in total. Over that same year, height increases by about 12 centimetres. So, how much growth should you picture? In year one, birth weight roughly triples and height adds about 25 centimetres. In year two, it's around one to two kilograms and 12 centimetres-still growing, just more slowly.
