Imagine dinner time, but no shops, farms, or roads bringing food to your door. That was the challenge across the Palaeolithic-the Old Stone Age, a vast stretch of human prehistory when stone tools mattered. But tools were only part of the answer. People learned where animals travelled, when plants were ready, and how to find fish. They hunted, fished, and gathered what their surroundings offered. They made tools for practical jobs and relied on knowledge of local plants, animals, and seasons to find food. As resources changed, some groups moved to find more; others lived differently, depending on what their region provided. The Palaeolithic was not one simple cave life. People did not all live in caves, or get food in the same way. That was a long, varied way of life, shaped by skilled hands and close knowledge of the world around you.
