For most of human history, people lived in small groups. They hunted, gathered food, and moved from place to place. Eventually, something extraordinary happened. Humans began settling down. Small settlements became larger. Larger settlements became permanent communities. And eventually, some became what we might call cities. But here's the difficult question: Which one was the first? To answer that, we have to travel thousands of years into the past. Visual direction Start with a modern city. Camera slowly zooms backward through time. Modern buildings disappear. Roads disappear. Show small prehistoric groups. Then show several small huts appearing. The huts gradually become a permanent settlement. End with the camera zooming toward an ancient map.
