(30 seconds) Explain in simple language: The word Janapada refers to a territory where a group of people settled. People lived in settlements, practised farming, and developed communities. Explain the connection between people, land, settlements, and political organization. Dialogue: Mittu: "Meera, what is a Janapada? Is it a giant village?" Meera: "Not exactly! A Janapada was a territory associated with a people or tribe. Over time, settlements and political organizations developed in these regions." SCENE 3: THE RISE OF MAHAJANAPADAS (35 seconds) Explain that by around the 6th century BCE, several larger and more powerful states emerged, commonly known as Mahajanapadas. Explain: - There were traditionally sixteen Mahajanapadas. - Some developed into powerful kingdoms. - Some were republics or oligarchic states. - Their territories, political systems, and levels of power varied. Dialogue: Mittu: "So Janapadas became super-sized kingdoms?" Meera: "Some states grew larger and more powerful, and these were known as Mahajanapadas. But not all had the same system of government."
