Video narration
Plants look green because of a pigment called chlorophyll in their leaves. Sunlight is made of many colors, and chlorophyll is great at absorbing red and blue light to power photosynthesis. But it doesn’t absorb green light very well. Instead, green light is reflected—or passes through the leaf—and that’s the color that reaches our eyes. So plants look green not because they make green light, but because they mostly use the other colors.
